Biddulph Folk Club

Biddulph Folk Club celebrated its 12th birthday in tremendous style last Thursday when internationally acclaimed folk duo Gary and Vera Aspey performed to a full and appreciative audience.

It was nearly 10 years since Gary and Vera had appeared at the club, in a career stretching nearly three decades and which has taken them many times around the world, filling many large venues on their way. But they are equally at home playing the folk-club circuit and judging by their performance last Thursday, have lost none of their enthusiasm and sparkle in their ability to entertain an audience.

This was top quality entertaiment by any standard, with Gary's renowned tales and rantings having the audience in fits of laughter as he produced some classic material. He was ably accompanied by Vera's guitar and piano accordion backing.

By the end of the evening, an ecstatic audience was demanding their return, which the organisers promised in the next programme.

The evening was complemented by the local floor singers, especially comedy duo; His Worship and the Pig who performed an extended spot.

Biddulph Folk Club, which meets regularly in the upstairs room of The Biddulph Arms, has an informal membership and all are welcome.
